Transition to primary school
The year before starting school is a special and exciting time for children.
They look forward to school with great enthusiasm and can’t wait to learn how to read, write, and do math. For us, the entire kita experience is seen as preparation for school.
School readiness is life readiness — not school training.
In their final year at the kita, children gradually prepare for the new expectations of school life. We support them by offering age-appropriate activities in small groups that strengthen their social, emotional, physical, and cognitive abilities. It’s not about teaching school content in advance to give them a head start — rather, it's about gently easing them into the school environment. In this important year, we place special emphasis on helping children understand what to expect in school and aim to spark joyful anticipation for this next stage in life. Our approach follows the framework of the Berlin Educational Program and is always guided by the child’s unique personality, interests, and abilities.
Currently, we have an active cooperation with the Kollwitzplatz Primary School for our future schoolchildren. Our educators regularly take part in meetings with the primary school teachers and organize joint activities (e.g., storytime sessions at the school). A celebratory farewell event and a special ritual at our summer festival mark the transition and provide a festive send-off into this exciting new chapter.
